Our dear friend and supporter of Tony’s Treehouse, Jette R. Anderson, leaves behind a legacy of love and generosity.
Jette and I first connected in 2018 after a StuNewsLaguna article featured our annual Adopt-A-Family program. She quickly became a devoted supporter of Tony’s Treehouse.
One of my most meaningful memories with her was a simple lunch at her favorite Chinese restaurant. She had reached out wanting to learn more—and as she asked about our programs, our budget, and how we operated, I shared that at the time we ran everything on about $3,000 a year, powered entirely by volunteers.
There was a pause… and then she looked at me and said, “You are an anomaly.” I took that as the greatest compliment—because we truly are. We are something different, built on goodwill, connection, and heart. Jette understood us.
After her passing in March 2021, we created the Jette Forward Initiative in her honor—a way to carry her generous spirit forward by surprising individuals with gifts that can truly change the course of their lives. With the support of the A. Gary Anderson Family Foundation, and alongside her daughter Erin, we continue that mission—working together to create meaningful, lasting impact in our community.
“Jette Forward” Recipients
Charris receives Jette Forward Grant

I almost walked away. I’m so grateful I didn’t.
Charris and I met on what felt like a random day in Dana Point—a place I often go to walk, reflect, and breathe. She had a small, quiet table displaying her artwork. The colors were vibrant and expressive, and they stopped me mid‑stride.
I didn’t have any cash with me, so I kept walking, telling myself I could come back another time. I almost didn’t. My to-do list was long, and home was calling—but something gently tugged at me to turn around and meet the quiet woman behind the art.
When I returned, I took time to truly see her work—each piece thoughtful, unique, and full of heart. After a brief conversation, I purchased two beautiful greeting cards and headed back to my car. Yet again, that same still voice nudged me: Go back. Ask if she’d be interested in creating artwork for Tony’s Treehouse. That moment marked the beginning of a beautiful partnership.
Over the next few months, Charris and I worked closely together to bring a shared vision to life—creating a collection of four unique notecards that we’re excited to share this coming holiday season. What began as a creative collaboration has grown into something even more meaningful. These notecards have become our annual fundraiser, encouraging connection, thoughtfulness, and the simple yet powerful act of staying in touch through heartfelt messages.
Through our many meet-ups, I came to know Charris more deeply. She is autistic and, as a child, was placed in Special Education classes where she often felt underestimated and under‑challenged, despite knowing she was capable of more. Still, she persevered. As she grew into adulthood, she taught herself how to drive, gaining independence through sheer determination. Life has not been easy, but she continues forward with resilience, courage, and grace. Today, while living with her parents, she supports herself through her art and creative work.
Much of Charris’s work is created on her computer—a tool that has faithfully supported her creativity, but one that is now in need of replacement.
Thanks to the generosity and vision of Erin Anderson and the A. Gary Anderson Family Foundation, Tony’s Treehouse was honored to award Charris a “Jette Forward” Grant. This meaningful support provides funding for a new computer and digital equipment—essential tools that allow her to continue creating—along with beautifully printed gift sets of the notecards she thoughtfully designed.
Because of this investment, Charris’s artwork is not only being nurtured, but shared—reaching new homes and opening opportunities for her to generate income through community pop-ups. We are deeply grateful for this belief in her potential and for helping pave the way toward a more independent and inspired future.
Through this gift, we also honor the legacy of Jette R. Anderson by uplifting lives like Charris’s and carrying forward her spirit of compassion.

Edison Becerra, local “Herban Farmer” receives Jette Forward Grant
CONGRATULATIONS to 10-year-old Edison Becerra, recipient of a “Jette Forward” Grant made possible by the A. Gary Anderson Family Foundation.
Edison is thrilled about all the possibilities this award brings. He plans to design a logo, purchase new seeds and tools, and grow his garden business. Currently, he’s seeking weekly egg subscribers ($5/dozen) and will soon have fresh blackberries available ($5 for 12 oz.), with seasonal produce offerings changing regularly.
Special thanks to Erin J. Anderson for making this grant possible and honoring the legacy of her mother, our beloved friend, Jette R. Anderson.
“Edison’s Confections” is the creation of a truly inspiring young entrepreneur. Edison’s creativity shines through his work—and even more remarkable, he donates 20% of his proceeds to support Tony’s Treehouse programs.
Summer Camp and Field Trips funded by our ‘Jette Forward’ Initiative, sponsored by our generous Treehouse supporters including A MASSIVE DONATION-DROP of $5,000 by the A. Gary Anderson Family Foundation, directed by Jette’s daughter, Erin Anderson.
